Hobart healthy food advocate Chloe Proud takes a patch-to-plate approach to business. When she’s not pressing juice and sourcing the best Tasmanian produce for Vita, Alceme Kitchen and Tasmanian Juice Press, she’s bushwalking, drinking coffee and spending time with her family.
Where do you live and what do you love about it?
Hobart. But I’m actually in true limbo at the moment as I’ve moved to Flinders Island for a few months for work. For the most part, I’m always very thankful we get to live with such close proximity to city, mountain and sea.
What’s the best thing about Hobart?
The community and the environment.
And the worst?
Misguided and haphazard developments that don’t consider the above.
Tell us a little bit about your work?
I own three businesses that centre around a core ethos of provenance and nutrition. Vita, Tasmanian Juice Press and Alceme Kitchen are all different inceptions of the same intention to produce nutritious products with minimal environmental impact.
Where’s your favourite eatery?
Tom McHugos or Pigeon Hole Café – both delicious and both believe the same things I do.
Where do you head for a coffee?
I’m actually a bit of a coffee butterfly because I move around the city so much. But Villino, Two Folk, Straight Up and Alceme (of course) I gravitate to.
What do you never leave home without?
My diary. I’d be lost without it.
Guilty pleasure?
Without trying to sound self-important, probably just any down time and alone time. When you employ and engage lots of people, it feels pretty naughty to turn your phone off and watch a movie.
Favourite Hobart secret?
The collection of benchmark modernist houses that are peppered and hidden throughout the suburbs – I have a propensity to house stalk under the guise of a Sunday stroll!
And outside of work?
Time with fam. Walk as much as possible. Food.
A quote to live and die by?
Be a conscious human!
