24 June On the last Wednesday of each month, Battery Point’s oldest surviving building, Semaphore Cottage, is open to the public to explore for free. Originally built as the guardhouse for the Mulgrave Battery, Hobart’s first defensive fortification, it evolved into the central headquarters for the semaphore telegraph system from Hobart to Port Arthur. 11am-12pm.
3 July The Big Sing, part of Festival of Voices, returns to Hobart’s waterfront tonight at 5.30pm, bringing together an incredible line-up of artists, choirs and performers for Tasmania’s most joyful community singalong. Leading this year’s Big Sing is acclaimed artist Casey Donovan, joining thousands of festivalgoers for a powerful rendition of My Island Home under the winter sky. Hosted by actor and broadcaster John O’Hara and TV presenter and performer Gorgi Coghlan, the 2026 line-up also features beatboxing sensation Tom Thum, Men in Suits, Queensland Show Choir, Pitches Be Crazy, Pop Choir, and Tasmanian festival favourites Uncle Gus + the Rimshots.
