by Stephanie Williams

Annette Counsell, 58, and Lenka Pelco¬va, 36, have just returned home from the World Kettlebell Sports Championships in Moldova with 15 medals between them and Annette also broke seven world records. The two traveled with the Australian national kettlebell team, competing with lifters from around the world, over three days.
A kettlebell is a cast-iron or cast-steel weight, shaped like a ball with a handle. Kettlebell sport involves performing as many repetitions of an overhead movement as possible in a set time, most commonly 10-30 minutes. Annette won three gold medals at the championships and six silver medals and Lenka won two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronzes. Both Lenka and Annette, who train at the same kettlebell club in Hobart, have been doing the sport for around four years. These Tasmanian trailblazers hope to empower people of all ages to explore what they are physically capable of. Lenka runs a support service company and Annette is a teacher at Southern Support School.
The World Kettlebell Sports Champi¬onships were held in Moldova Chisinau from 4 to 7 June. The two now go back into training for nationals in September in Perth.
