NEWS: Vale Chris Wedd
by Stephanie Williams

Pankind, the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, are sad to share that Chris Wedd passed away 20 July 2026 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A former swimmer, water polo player, coach, administrator and learn-to-swim operator whose love of swimming commenced with the opening of the Glenorchy Olympic Pool in the early 1960’s. As Head Coach of the Glenorchy Amateur Swimming Club and then The Hobart Aquatic Club, he inspired generations of swimmers. As a valued friend of the wider swimming community, and Life Member of Swimming Tasmania, Chris was always incredibly generous in providing knowledge and support to others, including as an advocate consumer voice for Pankind and Palliative Care Tasmania. Our condolences to Chriss, daughters Gabrielle, Cassandra and Joelle and their families and all who knew and loved Chris.
