NEWS: To Boyer And Beyond
by James Marsten

The rail corridor between New Norfolk and Boyer will be revived, with a new plan by The Derwent Valley Railway to bring the dormant space back to life with heritage rail services. The railway has secured a 3.1km lease, granting them the first official access to the section in about 20 years. The volunteer-run organisation will start at their base at the New Norfolk rail yard, progressing stage-by-stage from Back River Road to Third Avenue and beyond to the Boyer Mill, with the clearing of vegetation, replacement of sleepers and addition of fresh ballast. The railway has also recently renewed its lease of the historic station at Westerway, with a long-term plan to eventually extend services all the way to Mt Field National Park.
