Where to Eat Late in Tasmania
by Hobart Magazine

Outside of fast food, it can be challenging finding restaurants or snacks options open late in Tasmania. Whether you’re a night owl, a hospo worker knocking off, or just caving to a late-night craving, we’ll help you track down the best spots for a late dinner in Hobart, Launceston, and beyond.
Where to Eat Late in Hobart
The Den
Known for its rich, delicately balanced cocktails and mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cuisine, The Den is a great spot in Salamanca for a drink and snack with friends. They keep the night going, closing at 2am every day, while the kitchen stays open until 10pm every Friday and Saturday.
Bar Wa Izakaya
This hip, casual bar in North Hobart offers the full Japanese izakaya experience, complete with a wide range of Japanese dishes and a fully stocked bar specialising in sake, cocktails and beer. Food is served until 11pm every single night, with drinks flowing well past midnight.
Lost in Asia
From the Bar Wa team, Lost in Asia’s food and drinks menu is a tribute to all of Southeast Asia. They serve traditional dishes and street food harnessing smoke and charcoal to take you to the streets of the places that inspire them. Their kitchen is open until 10pm Thursday-Monday, with drinks until midnight.
Yummy Inn City
If you’re craving some late night Chinese food, turn your attention to Yummy Inn City on Barrack Street near Village Cinemas. Serving food until 11:30pm every night, the place invites you to relax, settle in, and enjoy spicy Sichuan flavours.
Grinners
While it’s not the latest closing kitchen on this list, Grinners scores points for consistency. The kitchen shuts at 9:30pm every night, which is still impressive in Hobart, where many kitchens close sometime before 9pm on work nights. Expect tasty Mexican street food in a relaxed dive bar setting.
Jungle Restaurant
Tucked away on Liverpool Street, this small, family-run Chinese restaurant lives up to its name with green walls and plants throughout. They stay open and serve food until 11:30pm every night, but if it’s quiet, they may close a bit earlier. So it’s best to book ahead if you’re planning a late visit.
In the Hanging Garden
A leafy multi-level venue with open-air seating, cocktails and casual bites, this is a live music and party precinct for lovers of the night. While most of their food options close at 8pm, the pizzeria closes at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Frank Restaurant
Located on the ground floor of the Marine Board Building by the waterfront, Frank serves up an extensive menu influenced by South American flavours, particularly Argentinian. Their kitchen closes at 9:30pm most nights, but stays open until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tandoor & Curry House
A relaxed, family-run Indian restaurant in the heart of Hobart serving traditional Indian fare. Open for dinner until 10pm every night, except Sundays when they’re closed.
Where to Eat Late in Launceston
Mudbar Restaurant
This riverfront venue offers refined paddock-to-plate dining and is one of Launceston’s more stylish eateries. Open every night until late, they typically close around midnight. You can settle in and enjoy grilled meats and seasonal dishes well into the night.
Northern Public House
A classic Tasmanian pub on the corner of George Street and York Streets in the CBD. They stay open until 10pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and midnight on Friday and Saturday, with the kitchen serving food until nearly close time.
Black Cow Bistro
Known for premium Tasmanian beef, Black Cow also focuses on local produce and seafood, much of it organic, all served in a relaxed bistro setting. They’ll keep you fed until 10pm on Thursdays and 10:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
